Cross Creek at Lee’s Summit’s mission is to serve their residents by helping them achieve the highest level of physical and mental well-being. Daily life at Cross Creek is based on the five pillars of brain health designed to encourage residents to move, discover, relax, nourish and connect. A 24-hour licensed nursing staff trained in dementia care along with endless amenities and activities will allow residents to continue doing the things they love in a safe and supported environment.
Cross Creek is set apart by its studio, one and two bedroom floor plans with private baths. In addition, the community offers Keystone Care, a technology created by The University of Missouri and Keystone Technologies, which uses a blend of artificial intelligence and motion detection to identify and manage risks associated with individual health issues – a preventative measure that could go a long way in preventing hospitalizations.
Cross Creek’s Director of Nursing, Kyra Williams, RN, MSN, strongly believes in what the community has to offer its residents. “Cross Creek will provide a meaningful place for residents with memory issues to live and enjoy life surrounded by those who will consistently love to care for them,” Williams said.
Everyday life at Cross Creek at Lee’s Summit is personalized for each resident. His or her care plan will support individual health, socialization and comfort needs. The community provides a structured environment with the flexibility and comfort of home. The elegantly designed studio, one bedroom and two bedroom suites with private bathrooms give each resident their own sense of privacy and independence, while the common spaces of the community encourage residents to engage with each other.
There are four distinct studio floor plans in addition to the one and two bedroom floor plans; certain suite styles will open onto patios leading to the enclosed outdoor courtyards. Rates for the suites and care at Cross Creek start at $5,845 per month.
Residents are encouraged to furnish and decorate their private suites in a way that makes them feel at home, and digital memory boxes adorn the outside of each suite, allowing residents and their families to update the boxes to trigger happy memories and aid in memory health.
The community is set up in two distinct neighborhoods which feature distinctive design and color-coding to assist residents with orienting themselves. The hearth room features a large stone fireplace and a piano, and opens into an enclosed patio with an outdoor fireplace, perfect for barbecues and outdoor activities. Two enclosed courtyards allow residents the freedom to have fresh air and stay active.
When walking the interior halls of Cross Creek, residents can interact with Life Skill stations and interactive art that stimulates reminiscing while grounding residents in their present surroundings. With endless options and activities, care staff will give residents as much help as they need as they navigate life in the community.
In the Wellness and Fitness center, residents can engage in healing, mindful movement led by Cross Creek’s Recreation Therapist. The Recreation Therapist can work alongside the nursing team to design exercise programs that meet individual health needs and abilities. Meanwhile, the whirlpool spa will provide a tranquil space for residents to unwind.
Safety and security are paramount at Cross Creek, so electronically locked doors, exterior security cameras, controlled and monitored access and community space sensors will serve to alert staff if any resident is in a situation where they may need assistance.
Executive Director Lewis Kelley stresses holistic well-being in his plan for the community.
“It is important to me to include health, fitness and healthy food choices as part of our programming for Cross Creek residents,” Kelley said.
Dietary Manager and Chef Galen Cloughly aims to meet this goal by providing fresh, delicious food choices with just the right mix of variety and traditional favorites. Cloughly says he’s looking forward to, “providing food and nutrition for our residents that will bring back memories of the comforts of home.”
As for daily activities, Cross Creek’s Recreation Therapist, Mary Beth Kaup, is passionate about creating plans that stimulate the mind and body. She works with each resident and their family to create an activities profile based on what the resident enjoys and how they spent their life, as well as what their needs are now.
“I am honored to work with the senior population and love everything about their history and culture…I help to make their days fun and meaningful,” says Kaup.
Kaup will also bring her Registered Pet Therapy dog, Chumley, to Cross Creek on a daily basis to interact, play with and help soothe the residents.
Volunteers and community involvement will play an important role at Cross Creek. The community will offer training for many volunteer roles and host events to help volunteers get to know life at the community and have a rewarding experience.
With a Dietary Manager, Recreation Therapist and other specialized employees, life at Cross Creek at Lee’s Summit is created with residents’ health and happiness in mind.
