Dr. M. Scott Hickman is a board-certified ophthalmologist practicing since 2008 in Lawrence, Kan., who recently opened an office here in Olathe, Ad Astra Eye. Dr. Hickman specializes in cataract surgery, glaucoma, diabetes and macular degeneration, as well as providing comprehensive eye exams. He uses the latest technologies to provide the highest quality surgical management of cataracts, including laser-assisted cataract surgery and premium intraocular lenses. In addition, he has taught cataract surgery skills in Africa and in the United Kingdom.
A native of Lawrence, Kan. and a graduate of Kansas University, he served in the Peace Corps in Mauritania, West Africa. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Hawaii, completed his internship at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City, and received his ophthalmology training at the University of Missouri–Kansas City.
Dr. Hickman is active in volunteer ophthalmology at home and abroad. He is the Medical Director of SEE International, a charity providing eye care throughout the world. In 2017, he completed a master’s degree in Public Health for Eye Care at the prestigious London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He spends his free time with his wife and three children, and especially enjoys hiking and bicycling. He is currently accepting new patients in Olathe.
