Tom’s Town Distilling Co.
Why you’re here: Because Kansas City can’t get enough of its Paris of the Plains past. This Crossroads watering hole, billed as the first legal distillery in KC since the Prohibition, preserves the era of Tom Pendergast with Gatsby-era decor, complete with a walnut bar, antique tin ceilings and speakeasy-style tasting room. Boss Tom’s influence is evident, from owners Steve Revare and David Epstein’s ties to the political boss (Revare’s great-great-uncle arrested Pendergast for tax evasion in 1939, and Epstein’s grandfather was a rivaling bootlegger) to the distillery’s signature liquors — Pendergast’s Royal Gold Bourbon, McElroy’s Corruption Gin and Eli’s StrongArm Vodka — that are used in the craft cocktails.
