Joseph Cizek Named Executive Chef at Chaz on the Plaza
Chaz on the Plaza at the historic Raphael Hotel has a new chef in the kitchen. Joseph Cizek will be calling the shots as executive chef when it comes to menu development, sourcing all food items, culinary team leadership, food quality, hotel in-suite dining and banquets and building on Chaz’s culinary reputation.
A native of Blue Springs, Cizek realized his calling for a culinary career when he was an omelet chef at the Kansas City Marriott Downtown. He then moved on to complete his associate’s degree in culinary arts and earned a bachelor’s degree in culinary arts management.
While his cooking style is rooted in classic French techniques, Cizek is also proficient at Asian techniques and styles. He learned from Michelin-starred Richard Chen’s restaurant in Pittsburgh as well as from James Beard Award-winning chef Kevin Shikami’s Shikago in Chicago.
Cizek has also traveled around the world to England and throughout Europe. His first executive chef position was at Fiddlehead Cafe in Chicago. Cizek has also worked at Parisi Cafe in Union Station, The Kansas City Club, and most recently at 99 Hops House at Argosy Casino.
