Fun, Free, Family Fridays: Doing the Coffee House Crawl
With all the things to do in a day, a little caffeine boost becomes pretty important on the agenda. These Kansas City coffee shops offer a variety of free amenities that families can enjoy while savoring the latest delicious coffee creation made by the talented baristas.
Homer’s Coffee House
Homer’s is committed to providing live music every Friday and Saturday night without any cover charge. Tonight’s band is Lester Estelle, playing from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. In addition, Homer’s showcases a different local artist each month so customers can view the diverse creativity and styles of their community on the coffee shop walls while enjoying their warm or cold beverage.

Black Dog Coffeehouse
At 7 p.m. tonight Black Dog Coffeehouse will host the musician Zachary Burch. Customers can relax to the acoustic talents of this local guitarist with the option of attending for free, or ordering from the coffeehouse’s unique menu. Their coffee is roasted by Messenger Coffee in KC, and they partner with their next-door bakery, Ibis Bread Company, to offer one-of-a-kind toast or the bread to go with their full breakfast and lunch menu.

Young and old can go to The Roasterie for a free tour this Friday at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Learn all about the cupping, roasting, and blending processes that happen before that magical blend hits your cup. Lucky attendees may even get to start up a roaster or try out cupping coffee themselves. Private tours for larger groups can be scheduled between 2 and 4 p.m. Tours last about an hour, but you may want to stay longer and sample one of their famous air-roasted coffees.
