Redfield's Replays: July 17

Two Johnson County club soccer teams will be looking for a national title when the USYSA (United States Youth Soccer Association) National Tournament takes places July 22-27 in Germantown, Md.

The two teams earned the spots in the national tournament with their play at the USYSA Region II Tournament in Dayton, Ohio in late June.

The KC Dynamos Under 17 girls team is one of eight to compete for the national title in its age group.

The Dynamos lost a 4-2 decision to the NSA Jaguars from Illinois in the Region II title match.

“This year at regionals, we played very well, avoided injuries and had a little bit of luck along the way, which everybody needs during five games in five days,” Coach Derek Shoare says.

Shoare adds, “The vast majority of this team has been together since they were 12 and have grown into a very tight family and a very good soccer team.”

The coach said that his team has won four of five state championships and have been close to getting out of their pool at the Region II tournament.

Now it is on to the Nationals.

“The team is excited about advancing to the Elite Eight in the country,” he says. “We join three teams from Southern California and teams from Florida, Ohio, Illinois and Virginia.”

The Dynamos are playing a pool of one team from Illinois and two California teams. The top two in each pool advance to the semifinals.

“All of our team are committed to play at the collegiate level so we are looking forward to competing against the best opposition in the country,” Shoare says.
