Red, White & Booze!

As much fun as the Fourth of July is, it can be a pretty stressful day. Did you get enough hamburger buns? Or did you need more hot dog buns? Is there plenty of ice in the cooler? Are your kids being safe with the sparklers? What time are the neighbors coming over?

Of course, all this leads up to a delicious barbecue and an explosive display of fireworks but getting there is no easy task. It’s not out of the question to have a drink in your hand for much of the day to help keep the edge off, particularly one that’s festive and is in the Independence Day spirit.

Here are four easy drinks to whip up to get you through the day:

Red, White and Blue Piña Colada

Hopefully, you won’t be getting caught in the rain during your holiday cookout, but this is one cool way to enjoy the festivities.

What you’ll need:

  • Two 3 Oz. shots of rum
  • Two 3 Oz. shots of Blue Curacao
  • 6 Oz. of pineapple juice
  • 4.5 Oz. of cream of coconut
  • One cup of fresh or frozen strawberries
  • Two cups of ice

Throw the rum, pineapple juice and cream of coconut into a blender and blend it until it’s smooth. Pour two thirds of that mixture into a separate container for now and blend the strawberries with the remaining third. Pour that into a glass, and then pour another third of the mixture back on top of it. There’s your red and white, and to top it off with blue, blend the remaining third of the mixture and the Blue Curacao and then pour it into the glass. It’s an explosion of taste!

Red, White and Blue Vodka Lemonade Slushies

‚ÄčThis celebratory drink is perfect for what’s likely going to be a hot day. You may not be able to avoid a brain freeze, though, with all the ice you’ll need.

What you’ll need:

  • Three full trays of ice
  • One cup of cranberry juice
  • One cup of Blue Curacao
  • One cup of vodka
  • One cup of your favorite lemonade

This is pretty similar to the piña colada, as it’s primarily just blended layers. For the red, dump the cranberry juice and one tray of ice into a blender on the crushed ice setting, and blend it until the ice is good and slushy. Pour it into a glass and then repeat that with the vodka and lemonade together, followed by the Blue Curacao. ‘Merica!

The Firecracker

Not every drink has to be red, white and blue. The Firecracker will explode on your taste buds while you watch them explode in the night sky.

What you’ll need:

  • 4 Oz. of cucumber vodka
  • Four 1-inch cubes of seedless watermelon
  • Two diced limes
  • 2 Oz. of simple syrup (Boil a fourth cup of water and sugar just until sugar dissolves. Add a fourth cup of ice to cool)

Combine the vodka, watermelon and lime in a cocktail shaker and mix them up. Once they’re muddled together, pour the simple syrup and ice to the mixture, and shake the combination until it’s cold. When you pour it in a glass, make sure to use a strainer. Garnish the drink with a watermelon or lime slice, and you’re good to go!

 A fruit-filled gin and tonic

If you just need something quick and easy to get you through the day, that’s completely understandable. Luckily, there’s something you can whip up in seconds that still passes as honoring America!

Make a standard gin and tonic in a tall glass, dump some blueberries and raspberries to add a little flavor, and enjoy!
