Overland Park Teen Selected to Write Song for New American Girl Doll

Kate Cosentino, a senior at Blue Valley West High School, was chosen to write a song for the new American Girl doll, Tenney Grant. Cosentino wrote the song “Music in Me” to inspire young girls to pursue their dreams.

Cosentino started singing and writing in first grade. She wrote her first song in third grade, and at the age of 15, she won the under-18-years-old category in the UK Songwriting Contest.

Only nine girls were nationally chosen to produce a song for Tenney. Cosentino learned about the opportunity while attending the Nashville Songwriters Association International convention. Cosentino tried out for the part after an old mentor contacted her “out of the blue,” she said.

Look for Cosentino’s music video of her song “Music in Me,” which will premiere on the American Girl YouTube channel.
