26TH ANNUAL ST. PATRICK’S DAY PARADE
Downtown Martin City | March 10, 2013

The Martin City Business & Community Association presents the “Martin City is Going Green” annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade at 2 p.m. Fox 4 News reporter Kathy Quinn is the grand marshal of the parade, which departs from State Line Point Shopping Center at 135th and Washington streets and will travel east across 135th to Holmes Road. Cash prizes will be awarded following the parade. “Irishpalooza” festivities preceding the parade begin with breakfast at RC’s or Swagger from 7 to 10 a.m. The Phil Moore 1K Race to Benefit Education kicks off at 11 a.m. and the Best Dressed Dog Contest is at 11:30 a.m. The Prince and Princess Contest for children ages 2 to 7 starts at 12:30 p.m. Pigment Pie face painting will be on hand from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and a food and beverage station staffed by Boy Scout Troop 601 will be located along 135th Street.

The Home Builders Association of Greater Kansas City presents the 36th annual Home Show, which kicks off springtime home and garden fun. This Kansas City tradition — together with the Flower, Lawn & Garden Show — showcases the latest ideas, opportunities and choices for homeowners to get a jump on spring home and garden projects. Check out guest appearances by bestselling author Brian Santos, “The Wall Wizard,” and Sarah Susanka, architect and author of “The Not So Big House” series. The event also includes a kids’ Lego play area and the Water Garden Society’s largest display ever of water features and flowers in a park-like setting.

BIG 12 MEN’S BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

The Big 12 Men’s Basketball Championship will once again take over Kansas City. The event has been played here 11 times since the league began competition in 1996-97 — more than any other city in the conference. The next four years will make it seven consecutive seasons that the Big 12 postseason championship has been held at Sprint Center.
