Spa Day!

When an ordinary massage or mani/pedi just won't cut it, these luxe local treatments go above and beyond.

Everyone deserves a little pampering and Kansas City salons and spas have you covered, offering luxe treatments that are far from standard. Read on for our curated list of spa picks from a decadent chocolate truffle body wrap to the ultimate “Sea and C” facial.

The Spa at Briarcliff

At The Spa at Briarcliff, you don’t just get treatments – you get experiences. The Float Experience ($65) “helps to promote the release of endorphins, which rejuvenates your body and mind.” For 60 minutes, you “float in 12 inches of buoyant, mineral-rich and temperature-maintained water.” It detoxifies the body, relaxes muscles, promotes healing, sedates the nervous system and reduces fatigue. Plus, the soak leaves your skin feeling supple. One hour in the private room floating in the water is equivalent to four hours of REM sleep.

Enjoy this experience alone or try the Soothing Waters package ($220, approx. five hours), which includes The Float Experience, Seaweed Detoxifying Wrap, lunch by Trezo Mare, Briarcliff Signature Manicure and Briarcliff Signature Pedicure.

4133 N. Mulberry Drive, Kansas City, Mo., (816) 746-5333,

Bijin Salon & Spa

Bijin’s silver package ($170) is three hours of pure bliss: 60-minute massage or facial, signature pedicure, shampoo and blowout, and a light lunch from The Classic Cookie. Add a kerastase deep-conditioning hair treatment, which lasts six to eight weeks ($35 to $75).

To look your best for a special event, opt for an oxygen facial, which tightens, lightens and brightens the skin with medical-grade oxygen. Get this facial by itself (starting at $135), or as a treatment add-on (starting at $45).

6960 Mission Lane, Prairie Village, Kan., (913) 671-7777,

ROCA Salon & Spa

The Chocolate & Berries Decadence Wrap ($125) is almost good enough to eat. A blueberry sugar scrub exfoliates the body, then a chocolate truffle body wrap nourishes the skin. A naseberry (Jamaican fruit) body lotion is applied to complete the treatment.

Channel the warmth of the islands with a luxurious Signature Hawaiian Lomi-lomi Hot Stone Massage ($110). Warm stones are strategically placed and are used for flowing massage movements, or Lomi-lomi. The smell of the tropical oils will take you to paradise.

Add customized chroma therapy ($10), which uses different colored lights in the steam shower (red lights revitalize cells, for example); customized sound therapy ($5), which uses different music, catered to your needs, to stimulate brain cells during the massage; or a bath ritual (European or Native American Detox, $20), which uses your choice of herbs placed in a muslin bag and dropped into the steam bath area for a relaxing end to your treatment. Other enhancements include sauna therapy, sore muscle soak and customized aroma therapy.
