$80 Million Plan Announced for Metcalf South Shopping Center
After rejecting the first redevelopment proposal, the Overland Park City Council approved Lane4 Property's newest proposal for Metcalf South Shopping Center.
The new $80 million project will demolish most of the dated building, and it will be home to a 165,000-square-foot Lowe’s home improvement store. Along with the Lowe’s, developers hope to have more walk-friendly spaces and 13 smaller retailers and food vendors.
Developers hope to open the Lowe’s in spring 2018.
Metcalf South opened in 1967 and in 1975 a third retail level was added. In 1989 to 1990, the mall was renovated. The mall closed down in 2014 after a decline when two competitors opened up nearby.
