After countless hours of practice, dedication and preparation, the UMKC Dance Team won first place in the National Dance Alliance Jazz Division I National Championship on April 7.

With the pressure of being in the largest division at the competition with 22 other teams, the Roos scored an impressive 9.611 to place first. This is the team’s first national championship win since the program’s reboot nine years ago.

The annual National Dance Alliance Nationals competition, held in Daytona Beach, Florida, this year, is the largest cheer and dance competition in the country, with more than 1,500 teams from 45 states. The Roos roster consisted of three seniors, five sophomores and six freshmen, making it the youngest team in the school’s history.
