Kansas City gets a shout-out in Vogue magazine for being anything but a “flyover city.” KC shares the spotlight with Indianapolis and Oklahoma City. Vogue says Kansas City, Indianapolis and Oklahoma City “are luring travelers with their creative cuisine, live tunes, new museums, and serious laid-back charm.”

Vogue provides travelers a guide for where to shop, eat, play and stay in each city.

Featured KC shops include Matt Baldwin’s Standard Style and Baldwin KC in Seville, Spain-influenced Country Club Plaza; and Halls, Hallmark’s boutique department store. They shine on smaller KC shops like Golden & Pine, Dear Society, Bridies, Cable and Company, and Urban Provisions.

When it comes to wining and dining, Vogue doesn’t shy away from Kansas City’s liquor scene. They list Ca Va, a “chic Champagne bar;” Port Fonda for margaritas; and Julep for a craft whiskey. The magazine recommends Neapolitan pizza from Il Lazzarone, barbecue from Joe’s Kansas City and Q39, Scandinavian food from Krokstrom Klubb & Market, Gram & Dun for happy hour, Bluestem for a James Beard-worthy dinner, The Rieger for steak, and coffee from Oddly Correct.

Activities include visiting the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, The Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, Tom Corbin’s bronze studio, The Majestic and Green Lady Lounge.

After a long day in the Paris of the Plains, Vogue suggests Hotel Sorella, Raphael Hotel and the Ambassador for places to spend the night and reenergize.
