1. THE ICE AT PARK PLACE

Without a doubt, The Ice at Park Place in Leawood was inspired by the muses of winter magic. Whether under a sky of sunshine or a canopy of evening moon and stars, happy skating happens on the ice at this outdoor, open-air venue. With its twinkle lights, music and glowing fire pits along with fabulous restaurants and shopping, the Ice at Park Place surrounds visitors in the ambiance of a poetic European village. The Ice Team hosts several annual events, too, including a Valentine’s Day Skate and Skate With a Princess. This month, there are free ice skating lessons. parkplaceleawood.com

3. KANSAS CITY ICE CENTER

Lace up, and hit the ice at one of Kansas City’s premier ice venues. Open year-round, the Kansas City Ice Center in Shawnee Mission is an irresistible combination of both indoor and outdoor frozen surfaces. Through early March, KCIC’s full-size outdoor arena is open, and just steps away is the indoor pavilion. This NHL-regulation rink is home to KCIC’s Skate School, the Silver Blades and Kansas City Figure Skating Clubs along with numerous youth and adult hockey leagues. When ice time is over, warm up cold toes and noses with a frothy hot chocolate, rich beer or fine glass of wine at the KCIC cafe, or refuel with the house specialty and skater favorite, jalapeno mac and cheese. Skating sessions and skate rental are free for little ice fans 4 and under. kcicecenter.com
